Adventures in Funkytown 5
As long as I'm singin'

So i wake up on Saturday morning and i look around. It's a beautiful day for a start. The weather is nice with just enough chill in the air as to make my trademark sweatshirt actually seem like appropriate attire but still warm enough that my plants get at least one more day outside before coming in to clean the air in my apartment up.

Second off, it's the start of a three day weekend, and, more importantly, I just got paid!

So i jump into my shiny car and drive off to go blow some of my hard earned cash on something that really says time well spent to me. Video Games! That's right. I got myself a new shoot-em-up game that will rot my brain and steal time. I came back to my apartment and opened the windows and door to let the breeze blow through. The problem with this was that there was an open house going on in the apartment across the hall. People would come into the apartment building and see an open door in the general area where an open house was advertised. They would poke their heads in and see me with a weeks worth of beard on my face, eating pizza and drinking Jones soda while staring intently at a screen where people's heads kept on blowing up. This was exacerbated by the fact that i have this really nice cabinet thing that the TV sits on that has built in speakers in it so the gunfire was sounding pretty realistic. There was also the fact that i was listening to TOOL and shouting "Fuck you you nazi shit!" at just about everything on the screen. The neighbors asked me to at least close my door round aafter several potential tenants left in a hurry

but that was ok, because about that time i got a call from my friend Apryl. She wanted me to mee a friend of hers and have some lunch so we met at this bar place and had a horseshoe. For those of you who don't know, a horseshoe is a sandwich made up of some form of meat, cheese sauce, french fries and bread ALL IN ONE ENORMOUS HEAP! Yeah. If you're not ready for it you walk around doubled over for an hour or so feeling like you just got punched in the stomach from the inside.

But anyway, i met Apryl and her navigator friend there and we had a good time cracking jokes and telling stories. About halfway through the meal, i pulled out a piece of paper from my pocket and began studying it. Apryl asked me what it was and i explained that my friend Pete had sent me a "geek puzzle" involving computer coding and causing theoretical trains to crash. I thought i might have a solution (i didn't actually, but hey) so i was doodling on the paper. Apryl, who is herself a navigator, said we should look at it later.

flash forward three hours (during which time RoB has gotten a new Phish t-shirt and listened to a call-in radio show about computers in which the host knew less about computers than RoB did). We find RoB and Apryl in a smokey Karioke bar hunched over a table and doodling on napkins trying to solve the nerd puzzle. The guy behind the turntables got up and said "Well, since no one is brave enough to start this off, i guess i will." He began singing a karioke version of "Brown Eyed Girl" by Van Morrison. He only got to the second verse because i pushed him out of the way and sang my lungs out (i actually did a really good job for those of you who care. About on a par with the night i hit the high note in "Come Sail Away" for those of you who remember). I got lost of cheers and high fives and then i went back to my soda and nerd puzzles.

flash forward two hours in which RoB has sang "Candle in the Wind" and Apryl has sung "Tonight the Heartahe's on me" by the Dixie Chicks (extremely well) and the nerd puzzle has been solved in about six different ways on soggy napkins. A guy staggers up to our table (past the LARGE women who were doing the Electric Slide) and says "what the hell are you doing?"

we looked up. "What?"

the guy slurred out what i think was an explaination that both Apryl and i had sung really well and that we were in a bar on a saturday night. What the hell were we doing trying to work out...whatever the hell we were doing...when we should be getting trashed and trying to get lucky. Apryl and i really couldn't think of a good explaination but the guy had left so it was ok.

returning home about one o'clock sunday morning and shooting more nazis till three...a good day in anyone's book i think.
